My favorite birthday card (from my husband) says, “Life is precious…and so are you. Have a beautiful birthday.” He personalized it with, “I cherish every moment I have with you, My Wife, My Love, My Krissi. I Love You. – Your Ken“. The card itself was sweet, what he wrote was beautiful, but above all else the butterfly on the front of the card reminded me of Elaine and the empty seat she would’ve filled alongside my other friends at dinner tonight.

Happy birthday, Elaine – on what would’ve been your 33rd, you deserves to have the biggest party. I bet you’re smiling with the knowledge that your and K1′s office is throwing you a huge one – complete with an “authentic Italian birthday cake” special ordered by your dad.

This grainy webcam photo was taken on December 4, 2000 and was the very first picture the world saw of my baby boy after we brought him home from Ukraine.
Today he turns EIGHT.

Me, Elaine and K1 – on my 30th birthday, August 6, 2006

Last night (or rather, yesterday) was K1′s best friend Elaine’s birthday.
She turned 31 so of course we had to go out and celebrate. We went with a group of our friends whom it seems we never see except for once or twice a year for someone’s birthday. Elaine’s birthday is always a big event and lots of people showed up to hang out. We went to downtown St. Pete and ate/drank at a place called “The Garden” (
skotteyss knows exactly what I’m talking about…) and did a little bar-hopping after. Additionally, last night was the first weekend of the month, so the city closes off a big section of street to traffic and a band plays in the middle of the street while multitudes of drunken people stumble around.

Last night K1 came over and made me dinner. Beef stroganoff – something I’ve been craving for awhile. He made it so perfectly this time, exactly how I like it! I love when he cooks for me… he really is talented when it comes to the culinary side of things. I remember when I first moved to Florida – we were staying together for the first 3 months I was here and he would cook me dinner almost every night. Usually pasta of some kind or another and then later we had various things made on his grill. I don’t know what I like of his best – it’s got to be a tie between garlic potatoes and spaghetti with extra chunky sauce.
